Stephen Colbert Reveals Musical Guest For ‘Late Show’ Debut

The Daily Show correspondent turned Colbert Report host signed off of his own program last December, moving from cable to network to take over The Late Show from David Letterman.Watch: David Letterman’s Late Show Concludes 33-Year Run With Foo Fighters’ ‘Everlong’At a press event in Los Angeles, Colbert revealed some details about his upcoming debut episode. First off, we now know that Kendrick Lamar will be the first Late Show musical guest. Considering that Jon Batiste is Colbert’s bandleader, the jazz/hip-hop fusion has the makings of a memorable performance. Lamar was also the final musical guest on the Report.Colbert also reiterated that he would not be bringing his “Colbert” character to The Late Show, saying that he’d rather his interviews with celebrity guests be about them and not him. He’s also hoping that Donald Trump is still in the presidential race a month from now.“Every little boy grows up believing they could be president of the United States. I’m so happy that little boy is Donald Trump. Please stay healthy until I get on the air… Every night before I go to bed, I light a candle and pray that he stays in the race, and I also pray that no one puts that candle anywhere near his hair.”last_img
